"The notion of Trinitarian ‘persons’ has suffered withering criticism at the hands of modern and post-modern theologies. In a veritable page-turner, Najib George Awad pushes back firmly with a vibrant, substantive, and wide-ranging defense of Trinitarian persons against those who would reduce them to mere modes or relations. That is not all. Building on a balanced interpretation of persons and relations in the triune God, Awad sets out an exciting vision of mature interaction between systematic theology and post-modernity that avoids the pitfalls of subordination and domination."

"Najib George Awad’s Persons in Relation is an excellent book, which takes the reader to the heart of the modern discussion on God and the Trinity, which started when—as the philosopher Hegel put it—substance was given away and the subject was set in its position. Brilliantly he presents this categorical development in the Christian concept of God: to conceive God as a subject. Awad shows the problems involved in this understanding. As well he informs excellently on the major positions, which have been put forward in the last two centuries, to overcome these problems. All this prepares the groundwork for Awad’s own plausible up-to-date concept of the Trinitarian God. Whoever wants to understand the modern discussion on the Trinity will profit immensely from Awad’s book."

"Persons in Relation represents a thought-provoking contribution to the debate over the relevance of Trinitarian theology in a postmodern world. After critically analyzing the shortcomings of the Modernist understanding of selfhood and subjectivity, the author proceeds to show how postmodern theology is still largely subordinate to modernity when it comes to the relationship between theology and other scholarly disciplines and forms of inquiry. Ultimately, he pleads for a reconfiguration of this relationship after the pattern of the Trinity as a correlational model of relationality. Awad’s conclusion cannot be more challenging!"

"Najib Awad offers a thorough study of the Trinitarian dogma which brings in the harvest of twentieth-century theology. What makes this study so important is the author’s attempt to face contemporary challenges. In constant dialogue with the tradition, Awad develops fresh perspectives for the future. No doubt, this book will make its way into the theologians' bookshelves."
