Lisa L. Thompson is an ordained Baptist minister and newly named associate professor of Black Homiletics and Liturgics at Vanderbilt Divinity School In Nashville, Tennessee. Her research and teaching are connected and consider the roles of rhetoric, culture, ethics, and ritual in theological communication. She is the author of Ingenuity: Black Women and Proclamation (2018).
The headlines are where daily life meets the public square. Preachers often feel stuck when met with quickly shifting and dense media topics. When preachers determine it is appropriate to address issues that arise in the news cycle, they are often at a loss for how to speak about these issues from the pulpit.
